A New Lease of Life
The summer holidays saw the beginning of works and refurbishment at Elizabeth House. The major work would take all summer and the Playscheme was housed at Gillespie Primary School with much success.
The main hall was closed off from the main building, where the offices and classrooms remained in action. The work was undertaken by Westgate Construction Limited: a flurry of activities with an army of carpenters, builders, plasterers, painters all working round each other amicably and efficiently.

The parquet was delicately removed, to be repaired and polished for re-use. The task was long and arduous, but we were not disappointed with the outcome. Then the old concrete was removed and the foundation dug deeper for a brand new, safer, foundation with precautions taken to avoid the difficulties we have had previously. All windows were replaced and damp proofing put into place to create low energy emissions - it is our aim to be an environmentally friendly building.
As well as the main hall, the hallway got a fresh coat of paint, with new furniture and plants. The canteen finally looks like a dining area, freshly painted, with lighter flooring and new, sleek chairs.
We are very pleased to have been able to carry out the refurbishment, so that the community as a whole can enjoy a brand new environment.
We would like to thank Westgate for a professional approach and a job well done. We would also like to thank Mark Owen (Head Teacher) and the staff of Gillespie School for their co-operation in using the school during this holiday period. We can’t miss out, Paul O’Connor, our plumber, who put in a new boiler.
